Movies with Best Motor Vehicles: How to Watch to them

What’s the best way to watch Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Paul Walker in action? Here's a speedy explanation of the Fast & Furious movie timeline.

The Fast and the Furious, a relatively low-stakes street racing and gangster thriller that launched the series in 2001, centered on the tense bond between Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and undercover detective Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker).

But the franchise's scope, size, absurdity, and heart have only grown since then.

After the terrible death of Paul Walker, the series' seventh installment, Furious 7, saw fans, cast members, and crew bid farewell to Brian O'Conner. The movie was a critical and financial success.

Since then, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham's explosive eighth adventure and the spin-off movie Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs & Shaw have been given to us.

Fast and Furious 9 was finally released in 2021, with the series going further into the history of the main Toretto family.

So, if you're wondering where to watch these movies and in what order, check out the information below.

How to watch the Fast and Furious movies: chronological timeline order

Although most Fast movies are sequels to one another, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift stands out as an exception.

Tokyo Drift, despite it being the third Fast movie to hit theatres, really takes place between Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7. Moving away from the story of Brian and Dom, the movie centers on a brand-new cast of people, including Sean Boswell (Lucas lack), a student who is compelled to relocate to Japan in order to avoid going to jail.

Fortunately, Universal determined that Han would be brought back because he was so well-liked and devised a creative solution by setting all upcoming Fast movies before to Toyko Drift.

As a result, Han might make a triumphant comeback in the upcoming Fast & Furious movie.

Fast and Furious timeline

The Fast and Furious franchise also includes a number of high-speed prequels, sequels, and midquels, which further complicates matters. The majority of these films, which shed light on hitherto unexplored portions of the high-speed saga's narrative, were produced for the DVD releases of the original movies.

The short video Turbo-Charged Prelude, which was first made available on the DVD of 2 Fast 2 Furious (the movie after this one on this list), demonstrates precisely how Brian (Paul Walker) changed from being an LAPD officer to a criminal. The explanation is straightforward: after helping Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) elude the cops, Brian finds himself on the wanted list.

How to watch the Fast and Furious movies: release order

It might be wise to take the simplest path if you're unfamiliar with the Fast and Furious. After all, the majority of the films are arranged chronologically, with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), the third film in the series, producing some perplexing pile-ups in the timeline as stated.

1. The Fast and the Furious (2001)

Vin Diesel (L) and Paul Walker in The Fast and the Furious

Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Rick Yune, Chad Lindberg, Johnny Strong, and Ted Levine are among the actors who appear in the film.

The Fast and the Furious (2001) features undercover cop Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker), who joins a heist team led by Dominic Toretto, in the first episode of the series (Vin Diesel).

2. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)

Starring: James Remar, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Eva Mendes, Tyrese Gibson, Cole Hauser, and Paul Walker.

The events of The Fast and the Furious are continued in 2 Fast 2 Furious, which doesn't have Vin Diesel as a lead but does have Walker as a main character. Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris, who later became two main characters, are introduced here as Tej and Roman, respectively.

3. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)

Starring: Bow and Lucas Black Wow, Brian Tee, Sung Kang, and Nathalie Kelley.

Here is when things start to change. This one was considered to be a type of "reboot" for the entire franchise. In addition to a brief cameo, there was no Paul Walker, Diesel, Ludacris, Michelle Rodriguez, or Gibson. There aren't many main characters in this. Han appeared in the Japanese-set film (Sung Kang). Thankfully, Han won over admirers, but the film did slightly distort the timeframe.

4. Fast & Furious (2009)

Featuring: Laz Alonso, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, John Ortiz, Gal Gadot, Vin Diesel, and Paul Walker.

This one is the fourth in the franchise and should not be confused with the first movie (these titles are confusing!). The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is set after 2 Fast 2 Furious, therefore we won't discuss it right now.

5. Fast Five (2011)

Cast includes Matt Schulze, Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Tego Calderon, Don Omar, Gal Gadot, and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges.

The Rock makes his film debut as Luke Hobbs in Fast Five, and Tyrese and Ludacris make their long-awaited comebacks. Gal Gadot also makes an appearance, as does Sung Kang who plays Han. Here, the flicks begin to pick up speed and veer into silliness.

6. Fast & Furious 6 (2013)

Starring: Gal Gadot, Luke Evans, Gina Carano, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and John Ortiz.

With Luke Evans playing Owen Shaw, we either have a brand-new villain revealed to us or an entire family of villains. In a sequence originally seen in Tokyo Drift, Deckard Shaw, a character played by Jason Statham, appears to kill Han. Deckard Shaw is also introduced in a post-credits scene. We've finally caught up, yay!

7. Furious 7 (2015)

Along with Kurt Russell and Jason Statham, the film stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jordana Brewster, and Djimon Hounsou.

For this one, the cast comes back together as we bid Paul Walker farewell. After that battle with Diesel and The Rock in the credits scene, Statham is back for his first genuine leading role in the FF series.

8. The Fate of the Furious (2017)

With Kurt Russell, Charlize Theron, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Scott Eastwood, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Elsa Pataky as well as Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and others.

With this eighth film, the franchise is continued. Charlize Theron, who plays the antagonist Cipher, is introduced. This is the first episode without Brian, played by Paul Walker, and it also introduces us to a new member of Dom's family.

9. Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw (2019)

Helen Mirren, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, Cliff Curtis, and Dwayne Johnson serve as the film's stars.

A brief diversion is necessary because this is a spin-off and not actually a part of the main franchise. In order to take on the super-soldier played by Idris Elba, The Rock and Statham are back. Shaw makes the switch from bad guy to hero. In addition, Helen Mirren reprises her role as their mother after making a brief appearance in the eighth Fast and Furious movie. Vanessa Kirby plays Statham's sister Hattie.

10. F9 (2021)

Universal

A cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, Cliff Curtis, and Helen Mirren is also featured.

This is a tiny side trip because it's a spin-off and not actually a part of the main franchise. In order to take on Idris Elba's super-soldier, The Rock and Statham are back. Shaw turns from a villain to a hero. Alongside Helen Mirren, who previously appeared as their mother in the eighth Fast and Furious movie, Vanessa Kirby plays Statham's sister Hattie.

11. Fast X

Fast & Furious 9 - Han and Dom Universal

Along with Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Jason Statham, Scott Eastwood, Michael Rooker, Charlize Theron, Cardi B, Jason Momoa, Daniela Melchior, Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson, and Rita Moreno, the film also stars Michael Rooker, Michael Douglas, Rita Moreno,

In the main Fast and Furious series, the tenth and penultimate movie is scheduled for release in 2023.

Jason Statham, reprising his role as Deckard Shaw in the main trilogy, will appear in the movie. Oscar winners Rita Moreno and Jason Momoa will both make their series debuts as villains.

Charlize Theron will also return as the recurring antagonist and hacker Cipher.

We wouldn't be surprised if this one ends in a cliffhanger ahead of the eleventh film.
